This Tuesday afternoon, in Hollywood Hills, CA, there will be numerous friends and family wearing purple and gathering together to celebrate the life of Maddie.

There are articles all over the internet talking about (and videos too) the tragic death of 17 month old, Madeline Alice Spohr.  It’s amazing to think of all the walks that have been organized, the money that has been raised, and the support that has been shown for this family.

If you haven’t heard this news, here’s a quick (very quick) recap.

Maddie was born premature at 29 weeks.  After 17 months, her life came to a sudden end almost a week ago, after she was rushed to the hospital due to trouble breathing with a cough.  For much more detail you can visit Heather’s website, The Spohrs Are Multiplying or March for Maddie.

Maddie’s mother, Heather, had already been raising funds for March of Dimes.  Heather has raised over $20,000 for this amazing group.  The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.  As a mother of two healthy boys, the mission of March of Dimes is something I can support.  With the recent passing of Madeline, I decided to start a Chicago-suburb team to participate in the March of Dimes.

If you’d like to participate in a walk locally, consider joining the Walkin’ for Maddie team on April 26th in Naperville.  I would love to meet you and for you to join our team!  If you can’t walk that day, please consider making a donation.  I’ll be walking in memory of Maddie, but also in honor of Ethan, Alyssa, Evelyn, and Alexis (all children I know that were born premature and are striving today).
