December 16, 2008– At a loss for what to give a kid on your list who’s got everything? How about a pair of tickets to one of Old Town School of Folk Music’s upcoming kid concerts?

Their winter/spring concert schedule highlights at least one child-centered performance each month. Zip up your footie pajamas, because on January 18th at 5 p.m., the popular the Teddy Bear Hootenanny returns! Join Wiggleworm instructors and local children musicians (like Little Miss Ann, Ann Torralba) and costumed characters from the Chicago Children’s Theater for a teddy-themed sing-a-long, sure to keep you rocking straight through ’till bedtime. On February 22nd, toddler music superstar Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players play two shows at this intimate space. Known for his catchy rhythms that get the little ones grooving, and clever lyrics that keep their adults laughing, Justin Roberts often plays in large spaces (like outdoors at the 2008 Printer’s Row Book Fair); catching his act at Old Town will be an experience your family won’t soon forget. Famous Chicago vaudeville star Brigid Murphy is known for her years at the helm of the Orchid Show (performing with, among others, David Sedaris) and her time as Poi Dog Pondering’s saxophonist, but on March 15th at 3 p.m., she reinvents her revue for the younger crowd. To celebrate Earth Day, on April 19th at 11 a.m., Old Town hosts a Critter and Bug party ! Dress as your favorite creature to wiggle and squiggle to Wiggleworm instructor favorites like Shana Harvey, Rob Newhouse and Karen Banks-Lubicz.

Old Town School of Folk Music has two locations (909 W. Armitage and 4544 N. Lincoln), but their famed performance space is housed in their Lincoln Square building. Old Town promises that there isn’t a bad seat in this cozy house, a nice change from larger kid-centered concerts at venues such as The Chicago Theater.

Check out Old Town’s website or call their box office at 773-728-6000. Every one of these shows are $25 or less per seat, and many are only $10. Where else can you get a last minute holiday gift that won’t be replicated and is destined to become a sensational memory for the little one on your list?
