The invitation arrives in the mail. “You’re cordially invited to the wedding of…” Before you can even finish reading, your mind instantly goes into “What do I wear?” mode. Whether it’s a wedding, a black-tie gala, or class reunion, the scenario remains the same. There’s some fretting then a statement familiar to all of us,”I don’t have anything to wear.” Whether or not that’s true is usually never the point.

Now, when in the same situation, our male counterparts have it easy. If their black tie wardrobe fails them, then they can travel to the nearest Men’s Warehouse or tailor and rent a tuxedo. But, what about us gals? The concept of dress rental usually meant one of two things: buying and returning a gown (it happens!) OR borrowing one from a friend.

Well, ladies, that was then. This is now.

Enter Borrow A Dress Couture. Started by friends and Chicago gals, Bree Lara and Teonna Ingram, the Lakeview shop seeks to provide women with high style in an affordable manner. After realizing that they didn’t have enough dresses to correlate to their social commitments, the duo (smartly) realized that other women are probably in the same situation. While browsing the racks, I asked Bree, “Why didn’t I think of this?” Her response,” I don’t know but I’m glad that we did!”

The airy boutique space on North Sheffield is filled with gowns from exclusive designers as Marchesa, Abaete, Oui Oui Couture, and Vera Wang. Instead of spending anywhere between $300-$4000 on a dress, BADC allows you to rent the design paying between $59-$400 for a dress. The concept is so simple that I found myself waiting for the punchline or the hidden fees. There’s none of that here. You literally just follow the 3 steps below! Photobucket

1. Walk into the store and find a gown that you love and fits you.

2. Rent it for 3 days and be the beautiful belle of the ball.

3. Return the gown (BADC will handle the dry cleaning).

One thing that you don’t have to worry about is an inventory that just sits there and sits there. BADC stocks reflect the current season with new items arriving on a monthly basis. And, this fall, the boutique plans to incorporate coats and outerwear into the selection! Perfect for a city full of women who like to look great while staying warm. The sizes range from 0-18, and there are maternity styles as well. The team works with expectant mothers to find styles that work for their budding bellies, like the beautiful yellow Mac Duggal gown featured above ($79 for 3-day rental). There’s something for everyone in this location. Now, you can breathe a little when the next invitation arrives in the mail. Rent your stress away and wear the amazing gown that you deserve!

Insider’s Tip: If you rent a gown during the week of your birthday, you will receive 50% off the price. So, let’s see…A $2000 gown can be rented for $300 $150. Talk about a Happy Birthday!
