October 6, 2008 – Greetings to all of you out there! My name is Teresa Parker, and I will be your guide to the latest Arts & Style happenings in Chicago. I am pleased to be a part of this new endeavor, and look forward to bringing you information about art events, shows, and fun things to do with your families.

The fall art season is in full swing and October is Definitely one of the busiest art months of the year. October is Chicago Artist Month. There are literally hundreds of art shows, studio open houses and neighborhood art walks, lectures, plays, musicals, concerts and workshops. There is literally something for everyone to whet their artistic appetite.

One of the main events, featuring over 300 Chicago area artists, is the Chicago Art Open 2008, sponsored by the chicago artists’ Coalition. The show is being held this year at the Merchandise Mart at 220 Merchandise Mart Plaza, from October 3-19. Viewing hours are 11am – 5 pm. Daily admission is $5. It’s a great venue for looking at a lot of artists’ work…and then you could wander through a couple of the other Mart showrooms as well. Not a bad way to spend the day. For more information about this event, go to www.caconline.org for more details and informaion about the artists.

An even more comprehensive citywide listing of Chicago visual art events can be found by visiting the City of Chicago’s website under the Tourism section at www.chicagoartistsmonth.org. It will give you a complete listing of all their festivities.

An annual arts festival that features upcoming artists, is the Around the Coyote Fall Festival, October 17-19. Located in past years in the Wicker Park /Bucktown neighborhoods, the festival has moved to its new location in the west Loop at 1340 W. Washington Street, in the Plumbers Hall Building. Their website is aroundthecoyote.org and it will list over 150 visual artists, fil/video, music, theater and literary events.
The arts benefit everyone, so get out and see some great art!
