Nine Ideas for Spring Entertaining

It’s been in the 50s and 60s in Chicago, and little green things are starting to poke from the earth…it must be Spring! Are you getting the itch for some warm-weather entertaining like I am?  Here are nine tips to usher in the new season:

DRINK
Earl Grey Fizz
I originally included the Earl Grey Fizz in my Twelve Days of Cocktails feature for the winter holidays, but this elegant tea-and-champagne cocktail works for any time of year.

Blackberry Elderflower Spritzer with Mint
This refreshing non-alcoholic spritzer uses an ingredient from IKEA!

Creme de Violette
Why not drink some flowers?  Creme de Violette is a classic liqueur that’s made a real comeback thanks to Chicago’s mixologists.  Available at large liquor stores like Binny’s, it can be used in many different drinks.

DISH
Asparagus Appetizer Roll-ups
The popular spring veggie in a new coat for spring.  I plan to serve these for Easter.

Chocolate Toffee Matzo Candy
We celebrate multiple holidays at our house, so I made many batches of this for Passover last year.  It’s incredibly easy to make, and very addictive!  Make more than you think you’ll want.  I experimented with different toppings and my two favorite batches were sea salt and chopped crystallized ginger.

Deviled Egg Salad
What will all the plants growing and animal babies being born, eggs, the symbol of birth, are a natural choice for spring meals!

DECORATE
Seed Packet Favor
Remind your guests that it’s growing time with this simple place setting favor.

Flower in Watering Can
Practical but pretty enough to fall short of being utilitarian.

Egg Shaped Topiary
Who doesn’t love hydrangeas?  Here, they’re shaped into the symbol of the season.
