Moondance Diner Makes a Marvelous Breakfast

It’s not easy to find a good breakfast and lunch spot in the suburbs, and when you do, you can expect to wait in line at prime breakfast times. So, it’s a good thing the Moondance Diner serves breakfast as early as 6:30 am, all the way up to it’s closing time of 2:30 pm. Moondance doesn’t mess with dinner at either of its locations in Westmont and Burr Ridge, sticking to fun, funky and fresh breakfast and lunch choices. My husband and I have been enjoying Moondance in Westmont for close to a decade. From the colorful Fiestaware, to the pitcher of lemon water on your table, to the sunny atmosphere, Moondance offers a cheerful environment for a family breakfast, girlfriend brunch or even a casual business lunch.

The menu makes it obvious that Moondance cares about quality. The names of the dishes are entertaining as well: “Ba Ba Ba Benny and the Eggs” describes a variation on eggs Benedict, while “Attila the Ham” is a grilled ham sandwich. Healthy options abound; in fact, there is an entire section of the menu devoted to healthy dishes with names like “Triathlon” (a yogurt parfait), “Body Definition” (an egg-white omelet) “Iron Man,” and “Lean Machine.” Plenty of fresh vegetable-based choices make it easy to go vegetarian at breakfast or lunch. Salads are a great value because they include a warm (and huge) muffin of the day (which you can always take home for an afternoon snack). I usually order the Cancun salad, a delicious mixture of greens, mushrooms, tomato, sprouts, cheese, avocado and spicy chicken breast. If you like your food on the spicy side, you’ll find “hot” fare including a Chicago Fire chicken sandwich and a breakfast burrito. Waffles, pancakes, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, pizza crisps (lavosh cracker topped with havarti cheese and ingredients of your choice) and soup round out the menu.

See more of the menu at If you go at a prime meal time, be prepared to wait in line. You’ll find the friendly service and great cooking make it worthwhile. Moondance Diner is located at 844 E. Odgen Ave. in Westmont and 78 Burr Ridge Parkway in Burr Ridge. Telephone 630-655-1840.
