Oct. 16, 2008 – If you haven’t been to Kitsch’n on Roscoe (which I am sure most of you have), you will fall in love with the 70’s theme and memorabilia. Everywhere you look you see something that reminds you of your (or better my) childhood. Record players. Magic 8 balls. Great place to go with the kids so they get a feel for what our younger days were like. Mine like to play Connect Four while waiting for their food. I like that they are beyond entertained, they are interested! If you haven’t been put it on the list, right after…

Kitsch’n River North! I have to give Kitsch’n my 2 time winner award. Not only do they have 2 fantastic locations, but I had to go to the new location at 600 W. Chicago (at the River) 2 times in 24 hours. After my acupuncture, we drifted into the bright, cheery, expansive space and found a goldmine folks!

They had about the best kids menu I have ever seen promoting the Lunch Box Special for $5.50. This includes choice of a main entree, 2 sides, a drink and a toy but that’s not the best part. It comes in a retro metal lunchbox. When it arrived my kids squealed like it was their birthday and my husband smiled since seeing the healthy value. Not only more than my kids could eat, the food was fresh and tasty!

Glancing over at the other smiling parents, we enjoyed the full size stove and refrigerator (both avocado) near the server stand. The designer mixed chic modern lines with retro memorabilia pieces in a way that made your eyes wander and search for more. Very inviting and great conversation pieces.

At the center of the restaurant sleek red sofas beg you to lounge and play one of the dozens of board games that are piled on the cocktail tables. This would be the best place to wait for a table in the city by far! Feel free to pick up a game when you and your family swing by and enjoy.

When you order, don’t pass by the falafel sandwich. Nothing against the sandwich, but I am not a fan. No way. No how. But when the server brought my husband’s falafel sandwich I had to drool. “Halfsie Halfsie?” I inquired. Reluctantly he agreed and I relished in the best sandwich I have ever had. My husband, the sandwich afficiando, agreed. Light tzaziki yogurt sauce on the side and fresh veggies. Yum!

When the sun rose the next day, we all asked when we were going back to Kitsch’n. 2 time winner! We threw on clothes and tested out the brunch menu. While I had chilaquiles perfectly made and full of fresh flavor, my husband had huevos rancheros for about a nanosecond. He cleaned the plate quicker than I could muster the halfsie hlfsie request. I was too busy dipping into the salsa and planning my next bite. The kids enjoyed a platter of hash browns, fruit and sausage links. We all left ecstatic.

Self described food snobs, our family literally could go back day after day since there are so many tasty concoctions on this menu. I imagine we will and will love each one. Leave it to my almost 5 year old to put it best. When we left he told me his meal was “delectable”. I agree. See you soon Kitsch’n!

We love Kitch’n too! They are always so eager to please when I’m there with my little guy in tow, and are not annoyed by the usual antics.

Can’t believe you went 2x in a row! hilarious! Now I am drooling too.
