The institution of “date night” has been around forever, but recently the topic has been at the forefront of conversations thanks to the First Couple. As they continue their tradition of date night, it’s caused many of us to say to ourselves (and our significant others), “If they can do it, then I’m sure that we can do it.”

Summertime in Chicago is the perfect time to maintain or start your own little dating routine. When the sun sets, the sweltering heat and humidity give way to beautiful nights. I’ve gathered up some great date ideas, and, of course, some corresponding style. Added bonus? Every look is less than $100! Afterall, you want to spend the evening looking great, and not worrying about the cost of your outfit!

Chicago Outdoor Film Festival – Every Tuesday in Grant Park until August 25th, enjoy the beautiful city view while watching classic movies under the stars. The lineup includes cult favorites such as “Psycho” and “Tootsie.” For this night, a beaded tunic and jeans provides the ultimate mix of casual chic. You definitely don’t want to forget a tote. The great carryall below is erfect for lugging your water, snacks, bug spray, and any other important items that you do not want to forget!

Summer Cinema Style Under $100

SummerDance at the Humboldt Park Boathouse – Normally hosted in Grant Park, this popular event combines dance lessons with great live music. Every now and then, the show hits the road and sets up shop at various Chicago Park Districts. Humboldt Park is the center of Chicago’s vivrant Puerto Rican culture, and the boathouse is one of the neighborhood’s prized treasures. Here, you’ll have the chance to break out your dancing shoes to the rhythms of Afro-Puerto Rican musicians or the trumpeting of swing jazz. Your ensemble should reflect the liveliness of the music. Totally think color but you also want to make sure you can move! After all, isn’t that why you came?

Lakefront Dining at Riva – Between the fast food and junk food, sometimes we forget what it’s like to have an “adult” meal at a restaurant where chicken fingers or burgers are not allowed! Venture on over to Riva restaurant, located in Navy Pier, for a menu filled with fresh seafood. The restaurant faces the lakefront so on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you can not only gaze into each others’ eyes, but you can watch the incredible fireworks show. This date is all about elegance and class, so you’ll definitely want to step out in a dress that makes you look as beautiful as you feel.

Dinner...Maybe Dancing?

Downtown Stroll – Sometimes, there’s nothing better or more romantic than a long walk, hand-in-hand. With the busy lives we all lead, it’s nice just to take a deep breath and relax. Enjoy the lights show at Buckingham Fountain (pictured) or grab some ice cream along Michigan Avenue. This date is all about flexibility. Who knows where the sidewalk (and your feet) will take you? Linen pants are a great way to transition from the daytime heat into the cooler nighttime air, and the colorful scarf adds a punch of color (and warmth) to your outfit!
