Title: Yellow, set go!

By Eulalio Fabie DeSilva

November 2, 2008 – This northside’s Chicago River shot was taken from a bridge at Wilson Avenue just west of Western Avenue. Almost unbeknownst to us street peddlers, under those bridges lays the hidden culture of these urban floaters riding through Chicago rivers and creeks that meander within and about our urban setting. And within the sheltered neighborhood of Ravenswood hides a little secret: kayakers and canoers go at each other in their right claim of the Chicago’s king of the river.

From afar, these urban floaters saw me and became aware of my lens pointing at them which may have competitively geared them up even more. This actual shot was seconds before the yellow kayakers collided with their counterparts, the canoers. Thankfully, it looked pretty minor and no one was hurt. Chalk one up for the banana bandits if you’re into hit and smash type of rides or instead, with the canoers, who were actually ahead of the banana floater.

As a photographer, I love yellows, Go Yellow!
