A Loaded Staycation with Loews Chicago

Loews1 - 10Playing tourist in my own city has always kept our family busy, especially in the downtown area. There’s always a lot of things to do and places to discover and rediscover so we take full advantage of it whenever we get a chance to roam around. Luckily, my teen son’s birthday also fell on the first day of their school’s Spring Break. This year we thought we would make our family spring break vacation stress-free and enjoy what we have here in our favorite city of Chicago. Yes, a staycation!

Loews2 - 1Naturally my first move was to book a room at Loews Chicago Hotel for the family. As the First Lady of #LoewsChicago, I have an opportunity to stay at the hotel and scour around the vicinity for some fun. There were so many options around the area that we almost didn’t know where to begin! On our kids to-do-list, we had dining on the Mag Mile, visit local park and museums, watch movies, and (of course) swimming. That’s a hefty list to do for two days and so off we went!

DAY ONE

DSC00013The excitement began as we checked in at the hotelLoews1 - 4. The Lakeview Suite had incredible views and my family couldn’t be happier just seeing how beautiful the room is and the spectacular view was not to be beat! We had the view of the East (Lake Michigan / Navy Pier) , West (Chicago River), and South (more Chicago River) of Chicago. We had a full living room, bathroom, and a bedroom with a king-sized bed. Loews Chicago also provided my family with a child’s IMG_2007 Loews1 - 1discovery kit to help us maneuver around the area. The kids learned more about our city with the included flash cards in there.

Right away the kids wanted to swim! I was not surprised but it also gave me a chance to work a little bit while the kids were busy playing in the pool. The pool at Loews Chicago goes as deep as 4 feet and perfect for my little swimmer!Loews1 - 3

After the fun swim, we decided to go eat and landed on their favorite spot, GyuKaku, a Japanese Bar-B-Q restaurant only a few blocks away on Ohio St. The kids enjoy the table grill and cook their own food. Movie was next on our list and Loews Chicago is just a block away from AMC Theatres River East. Yipee!

DAY TWO

With yesterday’s busy day, we slept in quite a bit. The sun was shining and we wanted to make sure that we visit the Millennium Park, but first – brunch is in order!

We walked 2 blocks down Michigan Ave. and walked north to head for the Water Tower Place. We’ve been wanting to try the new Harry Caray’s 7th Inning Stretch and it was the perfect day to do it. The food was as expected but what we were most surprised with was that attached to it was a Chicago Sports Museum. The entrance is free if you dine in the 7th Inning Stretch but $6 otherwise. The space was filled with fun activities!

After some time indoors, we wanted to make sure to spend the rest of the day outdoors, so we walked back up south on Michigan Ave. and headed to Millennium Park.

We could’ve gone for another day of touring our city but after the fun-filled two days we had enough walking and it was time to head back to Loews Chicago for more pool time!

The kids are now asking me everyday when we can head back to Loews Chicago. On their next list to visit around the hotel are  Navy Pier, Pinstripes, and Lucky Strike. I’m thinking more of taking advantage of the Spa at Loews Chicago and a nice treat and dine with the family at the Rural Society, the hotel’s signature restaurant. Maybe, even a drink or two with my husband at the hotel’s beautiful lobby bar, ETA, when the kids are tucked in bed. Come to think of it – a romantic (stay) get-a-away sounds kind of nice.

You see – the next time you think of Staycation, just imagine the full family fun you could have at Loews Chicago!
