15th Annual SOFA SHOW and Aztec Art at the Field

November 8, 2008 – Now that all the great Halloween festivities have settled down, two major art exhibitions have come to town that Must Not be missed. First off is the 15th Annual SOFA (Sculpture & Objects of Fine Art)Show being held in the Festival Hall at Navy Pier this weekend (November 7 – 9). The expo celebrates the BEST artisans and craftsmen in the world. Over 100 galleries and hundreds of artists will be represented, showing the latest and wildest creations in glass, jewelry, furniture, sculpture, ceramics, etc. Glass-blowing and wood-turning demonstrations are free. Second, the Field Museum of Natural History has opened its newest exhibition called ‘The Aztec World‘. The exhibit is open now through April 19, 2009. It will bring together for the first time ever over 300 artifacts from Mexican and American museums. The exhibit will trace the heritage of this once humble group through their rise as a major cultural center in the Americas. A related Field exhibition is the ‘Ancient Americas’, featuring over 2000 artifacts of Pre-Spanish-colonial American culture. These shows and more can be seen everyday. Advance ticket purchase is recommended, and may be found on the museum website at www.fieldmuseum.org
